I am a Homeschooler

It is official, I am a homeschooling Mama now! I registered with the accountability group here in Greenville, and attended my first homeschool meet-up group today. The people in the group were totally awesome, made me feel so at-home, and eased up all my tension about homeschooling. It is so relaxed and easy to homeschool, and fun on top of that! I am really excited to get to know some of the other parents and have all our kids play together once a week. Once Laila can break out of her shell a bit, I think she will have a blast with the other little girls her age. Field trips sound like they could be so much fun too, and we can do as many and whatever we want for a field trip and have it count toward her required days! Yay!
It is also nice to find out that she is farther ahead than she needs to be, but that is great, she will move through her grades quickly, I am sure of it.
It was also refreshing that all the snacks everyone brought were organic, and the kids were drinking water! There was a beautiful spread of fresh-picked fruits, some from Kirsten's garden, who is another Mom at the Unitarian church we go to. It seems like some of the people there are homeschooling for the same reasons we are, which is great to know.
After the kids came back and had a nap (and I got myself out of my tired funk) we had a great homeschooling afternoon. We all did puppet shows (even Grant!- Which was soo cute), we talked about ocean animals by watching parts of "Finding Nemo" and discussing, we looked at a book about Ancient Egypt, we learned some Spanish words, had drawing time, did reading, letter writing practice, and some math games. We even went back to the beautiful park we discovered today, and had 'gym class!'
This homeschooling is going to be a fun adventure for all of us!
