"Saved"

Doug and I watched this movie tonight called "Saved." Our friends from the UU have been telling us we have to see this movie. Now I see why. It is about this devout christian girl who tries to "save" her boyfriend, who confesses to her that he is gay, by sleeping with him. She gets pregnant, and the movie gets pretty damn funny. The girl in the movie trying to help save everyone is ridiculous. I especially liked the scene where the two girls are at the "Christian Shooting range" where their shirts tout the saying "an eye for an eye." Then there is the rebel, Jewish girl who is trying to wake everyone up by being boisterously outspoken. Like the scene where she pretends to start speaking in tongues at the assembly where they are re-saving students, screaming out an almost incomprehensible, "My pussy is so hot!" This rebel girl totally rocks! The best scene though had to be where the girl trying to save everyone finally drives her big 'ol van into the cheesy wooden, lit-up Jesus. It is too funny, and a "YES!" moment.
Doug and I had a discussion afterwards, both saying we wish we had been a little more rebellious in High School. We probably would have had way more fun without the sticks up our asses! I was too busy keeping my Mom from going off her rocker (she was definitely always on the verge), and Doug was too busy being the jock and trying to keep the peace with his parents. We were both the kind of people who stood up for the underdogs, and were liked by everyone. I wish I would have spent a little more time hanging out with the wild kids like my friend Claire. We always had a blast together, but I always held back a little, afraid of the "consequences."
It was probably meant to be though and for the best too. The last time I saw my friend Claire, was when I was a sophomore in college, and she was a strung-out looking waitress at the local Cracker Barrel, way overweight, and already a single Mom at the age of 20. My path hasn't been the easiest, but I am happy it wasn't harder, and that I am where I am at.
Although, I would still love to go tee-peeing some day. Maybe a Mom's night out. Any takers?

I was plenty "bad" enough in high school, and I don't regret it at all... If you've never tee-peed before, you should definitely give it a go. (but I think I gave that up after middle school...) What kind of rebelling do you think your kids will do? Interesting to think about.

Hey, I made a big batch of your lentil burger recipe and it was awesome. I threw in some sun-dried tomatoes and that was a nice addition. Let's just say I'm gonna be making lots of lentil burgers...

Got lots of stories about being the wild child. I was so tired of the partying, or so adept at it, that in college, I ended up being one of the only girls on my dorm hall to manage my time well enough to not fail miserably my first semester. However, I feel I spent a lot of time partying and not being creative.

BUT... I was amazing at dealing with kids in middle school who were out there doing what they thought I didn't know they were up to. We all end up using our experiences in amazing ways!
