Freedom

Doug and I are so thankful that now we can actually have our own well-furnished office all on our own. By well-furnished, I mean with patients. The office is already coming together very nicely and we have only had the keys for 2 days now. I did a little cleaning in the new place yesterday, and today, we worked all day cleaning and arranging. The office doesn't really need that much work. The rooms are so much more conducive to Doug's practice style than the last place. It is a warm and cozy little place, not echo-y like the last one that we had to work hard to fill so it wasn't loud in there. Luckily too, we have quite a lot of things to furnish the new office with that we have gathered over the last few years.
While cleaning there yesterday and today, we had a lot of people stop in and inquire about what we were doing, and what was going to be in there (new patients!). They all seemed happy to see us there and have that space being filled (and cleaned). It was hard for me just to wash the windows outside today (which is a Sunday) because so many people were stopping in to meet us. I hope they all overlooked my cleaning attire! I had to keep taking my yellow gloves off and pushing my hair up into my army patterned do-rag to shake hands with ladies in long dresses coming out of the tiny little church that meets in a space a few doors down. Their kids kept running back and forth past me to get my attention while I was working and their parents were still inside doing whatever it is they do ALL day on Sundays. I got invited to join them some Sunday no less than 5 times, if they only knew! We will just keep them in their happy little bible bubble, and not spill the beans on ourselves. All the more reason not to have certain bumper stickers on our car! Such as my all time favorite, "It's YOUR hell YOU burn in it!"
It is freedom though. To be able to be alone, able to keep more of our money, and not give it over to expensive overhead, no dealing with insurance companies, having it all so close to home, my ability to have the car pretty much all the time, and getting away from all the dogs in the profession, it is great! Now we just have to pay for all that education we have gained, school and in the business world. I think with our renewed hope and vision, it won't be long before we are free of all financial burden either, and enjoying the fruits of our labor and sacrifices! It goes without saying that Doug will be able to positively change so many lives in the whole process.
Freedom feels great!
