Ending with a Rain Jig

We had a super-fun, family day today. We strive for these as often as possible so our kids will look back and think, "Mom and Dad are pretty darn cool parents, we always had so much fun together." Something of which neither of us can say much about our own parents. Doug's parents were so wrapped up in church, and family vacations involved going to the grandparents' houses in Wisconsin. Mine were pretty good. We went camping just about every weekend in the summer months when I wasn't showing horses. Plus we lived on a lake, so that was great, but not much interaction time with the actual parents. We love them all dearly, but want more for our own kids.

So, we started our day by going to the Happy Berry farm in Six Mile, SC. We met our friends Lisa and her 2 girls and Meg and her Mom there, and had a blast picking the berries, enjoying the scenery, and chowing down. Grant ate AT LEAST a pound of berries himself. I am reminded of that SNL commercial, "Super Colon Blow!" That is what I discovered in his diaper when I went to bathe him tonight. It looked like fruit bat guano! We picked 12.25 lbs. of berries in about 1 1/2 hours of being there. Mucho fun!

Then we came back home, to my 2nd lovely crockpot meal of the day (yay, me) and chowed and then napped (all but Grant who slept in the car on the way home from berry-pickin').

After nap, we grabbed some snacks and headed out to the farm. We chatted, the kids chased frogs, and then, I rode Nigel, and put Laila and Rogan on him. Poor Ian got shafted as it started to lightning. It sprinkled the whole time, then poured, and we got stuck in the barn. After that, the kids had a blast getting soaked standing in the rain and jumping in the puddles. There wasn't a dry inch on them! What a candid moment! The rain let up a bit, and it stopped lightning, so we scooted back up to the trailer, but got soaked along the way. We got inside and had to strip down the kids, towel them off, then Beth hunted for old clothes to dress the kids in. They loved the old clothes, Rogan slept in his Hawaiin shirt tonight. He didn't even want to take it off for the bath! Wouldn't you know, when we got back to the trailer, it stopped raining? Oh well! We loved the adventure anyway! It was nice to have Doug carry me to the car, since my shoes were a muddy mess, and I had taken them off to dry and dress the kids inside.

It all made getting back home to a clean house, plenty of left-overs, and dry cozy pajamas very nice! It didn't even rain at our place, go figure! So, now I am doing a rain jig, as I love to fall asleep to the pitter-patter on the window!
