Today I got a news announcement from the Unitarian Universalist congregation we attend telling of another "hate crime" that happened in Knoxville, TN. Apparently a crazed man came in blabbing something about our acceptance of Gays, and opened fire during the service. He killed 2 people and injured a bunch more. I don't like talking about these things, or hearing about them. I never read the newspaper or watch the news or really any tv because of all the daily tragedies. I don't want to give energy to the proliferation of that.
I just don't get where these people develop such a hate for other people, or want to try to shove their ideas down people's throats. This is one of the reasons I was never comfortable with the Christian churches. They are so full of hatefulness and spite towards everyone whom is not like them. I love all people and are accepting of them, why can't they be accepting too? Why are they always going around telling people they are going to hell, and need to repent? Crazy!
A few weeks ago I heard the visiting pastor say, "I never understood, God's self, sacrificing God's self, to appease God's self." I was thinking, "YES! That is what made me crazy!" I remember bringing this sort of thing up to Doug's dad, who was a Lutheren Minister, and he just gave me a grumpy, "You just have to have faith."
I was like, "What does that mean? How is that logical?"
Then I realized that logic is a dirty word in that religion, and most others.
I mean, anyone who sits back and thinks about it can find soooo many illogical things about their beliefs and bible. But "You just have to have faith."
I guess "faith" means that if you can't come up with a cop-out answer like "God wouldn't let the bible be tampered with," then just shut-up, ignore your own question, forget you ever thought that, and sing your damn songs! Ignorance is definitely bliss for them.
I am sorry, but things need to make sense for me to vibe with them. They have to at least sound convincing. And trying to convince me that my gay friends are choosing to be gay because they are sinners is the most idiotic insane thing I have ever heard! Given a choice, who the hell would choose that so they could get shot at in our bigotous society?
The other day while walking downtown Greenville, I saw two lesbians holding hands. I wanted to run up to them and give them a big hug and say "Thank you for being here, and not being afraid to hold each other!" I opted for a smile. I hope this crazy radical city of ours starts changing in that direction. I guess the south is slow on EVERYTHING, heck I drove by a confederate outpost yesterday selling confederate flags and parephenalia. It looked new too. Sick!
These people have so much learning to do, and so many many more lives to live to catch up. I guess I have progressed so far beyond all that, that I just can't relate to it.

Yeah, The shooter mentioned about being bummed out because he couldn't find a job and that he hated liberals. What he really forgot to mention was that he hated himself as well.
