Makin' Me Crazy!

I know that all parents have their "breaking point," with their kids. For some reason, mine comes when my kids get whiny and clingy about seemingly insignificant things. For example, we were all sitting at lunch (minus Doug) eating, and Rogan says, "I gotta go potty! Help me!" For one thing, he already knows how to go by himself, and has for a long while, and for another, I was in the middle of my food, and helping Grant with his. I ask, 'Why do you need help? You know how to go by yourself, just go." He says, "I'm scared!" "Scared of what? There is nothing to be scared of." "The flying dinosaurs!" "Rogan, there is no flying dinosaurs!" "The monsters!" "Rogan, there is no such things as monsters! Didn't you go all by yourself at Grandma's house? She has a much bigger house than ours." "Yeah, but I am scared." So, I have to get up from the middle of my lunch for no apparent reason, to escort him to the bathroom.
Then there is Laila. She is independant at home. Always wants to go outside by herself. However, she does the whole "I'm scared" thing too. She won't even sleep in her own beautiful bedroom. The only bedroom with its own bathroom, that by the way, she won't step foot in either, not even when she is about to wet herself because someone else is using the other toilet. This makes me crazy. Then when we are out with friends or at church, if there is more than one of her friends, she grabs ahold of me and won't let go. She clams up, and holds onto my clothes, which drives me nuts.
Why do they do this? The only thing I can think of is one-on-one attention, and Laila's incurable shyness. It is like their energy can't handle too much, or they go on overload and want to be babied.
I hope they grow out of it soon, because it is makin' me crazy!
