Jen, the "Public Speaker"

Doug and I went to Camp Greenville this last weekend to give presentations at a Women's retreat. Camp Greenville is a YMCA camp, and they host a lot of different groups coming in. This group was about 24 feisty women from Greenville, Atlanta, and Charlotte. The coordinator of my homeschool group was the one who organized the retreat and asked me to come and do facials.
I was a little nervous to speak in front of so many women for my first time ever speaking in front of people. I wrote and practiced my presentation all week last week. I had it down pretty well, and was nervous, but excited to share my story and educate.
Doug went first with his presentation on reducing stress, and the 5 pillars to health. He is such the public speaker. He really gets the crowd going and involved, and tells some lame jokes (well I think they are lame, but I have heard them a thousand times!)
Then, I got up and did my thing. I felt much more relaxed following Doug, and also because I had talked and been around the women all day on Saturday. That really helped, so it was like I was talking to friends with their friends. I brought tears to their eyes, made them cheer, and also made them disgusted and angry at what is going on with their every-day products. The "organic" baby lotion ingredients really pissed them off as it had me a few years ago!
It was a great talk, and my friend Meg got to listen in, and said it was awesome, and that she really learned something from it. (Thanks for the feedback Meg, and for being there for me!) The women had so many questions afterwards for me, that I didn't even have a chance to get into the ordering of things. They were all so thankful that I shared what I know with them. Some of them even went back to their cabins to try to read in the dark their bottles of shampoo and lotions to see what was in them!
I got 4 more talks out of it, that might possibly have to be broken up into 6 or 8 depending on the size. I am really excited to do this again. It has launched me into my part-time career, that has just been sitting there waiting for me to take action on. Now I am not so nervous to do it!
So, here I am, Jen, the "Public Speaker."
Oh, and the mountains are GORGEOUS right now, so if you are down this way, GO! The leaves are amazing, and the air is chill and crisp! Perfect fall beauty!
